We have recently completed the modelling phase of our project which has allowed us to perform a nationwide search for potential district heat network sites. The next phase of the CHDU project is focused on completing case studies at four sites to initiate the development of district heat networks and explore the realities of applying the CHDU network configuration to different locations. The key steps are:
- In collaboration with CEE we are using the output from the CHDU mapping exercise to identify the best potential heat network sites which are located close to existing Community Energy Organisations.
- Working with local Community Energy Organisations we will select four of these sites to develop case studies. This will involve a wide range of tasks from engaging with local stakeholders, using tools created during this CHDU project to produce financial models and developing initial network layouts using THERMOS.
- Alongside developing case studies, we are exploring the different business models which could be adopted by communities wishing to develop district heat networks. We will be engaging with community organisations to seek feedback on our ideas and better understand what ongoing support is required.
